I was skeptical when my friends first started referring to the “mommy brain.” If anything, I figured that having a baby would make you smarter. Having a front row seat to witness the miracle of life and human development – how could that possibly turn you into a space cadet? It wasn’t until the maddening mantra of baby songs started spinning through my head that I began to worry. Baby Einstein may be designed to make baby into a genius but it sure makes mommy feel like a dope. The Sharp Mama is devoted to parents who want to provide developmentally appropriate experiences for their baby while simultaneously enriching their own intellectual lives.
Why?
We’re busy. There is no question that the modern day mama has a lot on her plate. In this hectic world, every mom can appreciate the value of authentic, meaningful experiences with her baby. We see how fast time flies by and we understand the importance of bonding with our children.
We’re smart. From the time we were babies, our mothers dreamed big for us. The modern day mama is well-educated and enlightened. We go above and beyond to inform ourselves about what is best for our children.
We’re important. We have so many roles, many of which require a lot of giving. With all that we do, the modern day mama is aware that she needs to shave off some time for herself. She strives to make space in her life for activities that enrich her mind.
How?
The goal is to create a year’s worth of activities and events that stimulate developmental growth for baby while enhancing intellectual growth for mommy. Weekday activities are designed to fit into the life of the modern day mama. Short but meaningful, these activities will culminate with one larger, related weekend event for the whole family.
The suggestions on this blog are intended to be part of a natural interaction between mom and baby and may, at times, seem very simple. More specifically, the blog is designed to provide ideas on how to add art and literature to your own life as a busy parent while continuing to engage in these simple, yet extremely important, interactions with your baby.
Whether you live in NYC, are planning a visit, or have no plans to step into a museum in the near future, this blog is for any mom (or dad, of course) who is interested in keeping her (or his) mind sharp.

So far so good! I’m actually intrigued. My Frankie is small yet but I look forward to engaging in more interaction.
